Iceland beer brands – Icelandic Beers.

Beer was banned in Icelandfrom 1915 to March 1, 1989. In Icelandwe have several natively brewed beer brands. The major breweries are Ölgerðin Egill Skallagrímsson and Vífilfell. The word Brugghús is Icelandic for brewpub. Following the end of prohibition, some Icelanders have celebrated Beer Day on March 1. Some people may take part in a bar crawl. The legalization of beer remains a significant cultural event in Icelandas beer has become the most popular alcoholic beverage. Last four or five years have new small qualiti brewerys been popping up in Iceland. Icelanders love their beer, maybe because it was denied them for so long.  The quality of Icelandic beer lies in the extremely clean and soft water the breweries use. Water quality is the name of the game in brewing. Unlike the water used by many foreign breweries, the water used for Icelandic beer does not have to be treated chemically. It is filtered, but apart from that not treated at all. Icelandic water is soft. SKÁL, Skál means “cheers” in Icelandic.
